I’m grateful that I made my transition to management by going from peer to middle manager at my previous company. Not because I thought it would be an easy move, because it definitely wasn’t. In retrospect, it allowed me to learn an important lesson about how front line employees acquire a negative view of management in general. And it taught me that even if you were the nicest and most deserving person to earn a promotion, that’s all different now, since you’ve now become “one of them.”
